My Story

I was born and raised in Guantánamo, Cuba. When I was 17 years old, I moved to Miami and started my college education at Miami Dade College - Kendall Campus, which helped me to find my course in this country. After finishing an Associate in Arts degree with a pathway in Chemistry at MDC, I decided to transfer to the University of Florida for a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry focused, with minors in Pathogenesis and Spanish.

Ever since my first lab courses at MDC, I found science very interesting and wanted to actually invest myself a little in research. One of my first research experiences was at Dr. Agatemor's Lab at the University of Miami. For the year I was there, I realized that I wanted to do more and pursue a career in research and medicine. As of now, I'm currently working at Dr. Martinez's Lab in the College of Dentistry at the University of Florida, working on projects that involve cryptococcal meningitis.
